Hello Everyone,

This is the first addition of my brand new running blog. The purpose of this blog is to discuss my new found love of running. My goal is to share my experiences and enthusiasm and hopefully learn something from my readers (if I actually get any). Since in my crazy dreams some people who do not know me well will actually read this I should start with a little background info.

I am New York City School Teacher who loves teaching the future of America. The last time I did anything athletic on a regular basis was playing little league baseball. In May of last year I met one of my all time favorite athletes and took a picture of him and I looked awful. I was as big as I had ever been and not feeling good. So I decided to join some of my friends in an attempt to lose some weight by joining weight watchers. (I promise this will actually get to running soon) Since I started I have lost 66 pounds. I did it mostly by following the diet and doing a lot of walking but my loss slowing down a bit and I know I needed to do more exercising. In early Nov I went to watch a friend run the ING NYC Marathon run for an amazing charity the Garden of Dreams (I will discuss them a little more in a future blog). I was inspired as I watched her all sorts of people run 26.2 miles and I began to think I wonder if someday that can be me so I set out to try to run. I found someone at work to run with two mornings a week and by myself for one long weekend run. Those first few runs were painful I could not even do a mile without having to stop every so often and by every so often it was a lot. I thought I was going to die during my first long run. It was like being hungover by ten.

The funny thing is I actually enjoyed it more each time I did it. I also got better each time I did it. Then yesterday I won an olympic gold medal!! (Ok we all know that did not happen) But what I did get was great I got the best hobby/exercise/ passion I may have ever gotten. I figure I spoke enough so far for my first time. In the next few blogs I plan to tell you how I named this blog (though if someone in Seattle reads this she will may know why), about my first race and what I love about running!

Thanks for the time and if you like my blog comment or tell a friend!
